A report on the get-together function organized on 20th September,2013 by the Duty Society, Aligarh Muslim University and Indian Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics(ISIAM) to meet Prof. Anil Pradhan and Dr. Sultana Nahar of Ohio State University visiting India to explore academic collaboration under the accord known as Singh-Obama educational accord.

The get-together was attended by fairly good number of academicians and administrators belonging to JamiaMilliaIslamia, Gautam Buddha University ,ShardaUniversity,IGNOU, Guru Nanak Dev University ,VidyaSagar Institute of Engineering and Management and members of the two organisations. Everyone who spoke on this occasion emphasized the need of active scientific collaboration between researchers of the two countries-India and USA.

The meeting was conducted by Ms Noore Zahra, Asst. Professor, Sharda University, member of ISIAM and Duty Society . She welcomed the guests and read the message of Prof A.H. Siddiqi who is the key organizer of this meeting and could not attend the function due to some unavoidable reason but he send his message by email.Prof.P.Manchanda( Secretary officiating - ISIAM,GNDU ),Prof.AnilPradhan,Dr Sultana Nahar , Dr R.P.Singh(Former V.C Sharda University and currently a senior functionary of IGNOU),Dr M.M.Ansari( Former Information Commissioner and currently UGC member),Prof R.C.Singh(Director Academic of a prestigious Institute in Meerut),Prof.Mushahi d Husain( Director Nano-Technology Centre JMI) and several other senior faculty members of JMI attended the function and expressed their views.

In the welcome addressProf.P.Manchanda discussed the ways and means of raising the quality of teaching and research of Mathematics and science with its special focus on Application to real world problems. She also talked about the need of establishment of a research cum training Institute for imparting education of Applied Emerging Sciences –interdisciplinary in nature .It is the same concept which was recommended in a Seminar on 28th April,2013.

Prof Anil Pradhan informed about the initiative taken by him for the US- India collaboration and US-India Education Foundation (USIEF),STEM (Science –Technology-engineering-Mathematics) Education & Research (ER),World-class national ER capacity building , Scientific and technological infrastructure and Global problems. He threw light on Dual-Degree Program and Future Prospects: From Pilot Project to Institutional Establishment. He emphasized on Interdisciplinary Projects and also mentioned the need to open an Institute for Advanced Scientific Interdisciplinary Studies.

Prof Sultana Nahar informed about “THE STEM-FACULTYPROJECT: Training the Next Generationof STEM Faculty at Higher EducationalInstitutions in Indiaand about theProposal:

USIEF Graduate Student Fellows and Collaboration with their Research Advisors.She emphasized that the need of the hour is to attract talented young researchers specially women in emerging areas of science, engineering and technology She also talked about other projects which she is pursuing.

Prof R.P. Singh highlighted the importance of such type of collaboration for Industrial and Technological development of any nation and discussed the present scenario and the related problems.

Prof M.M. Ansari also expressed his views on this occasion and whole hearted supported the initiatives of two governments.

All speakers on this occasion welcomed the initiative of Singh-Obama accord .

In the end Prof P. Manchanda presented vote of Thanks.

She expressed gratitude on behalf of ISIAM and Duty Society to all present who spared their valuable time and participated in the meet and shared their views.
